Perhaps owing to its heritage as a longtime destination for backpackers, food in Lonely Beach is cheap and delicious – and sometimes unique.
Like elsewhere on the island, fresh seafood is often the best bet in Lonely Beach, whether in one of the resort restaurant grill stations or at the roadside stalls. Grilled fish is available in a great many varieties, all caught fresh.
Also, be sure to sample the Thai pancakes—called roti—that are available in a number of variations throughout the Lonely Beach area. They are often served with banana and other fruit and well worth a try.
Lonely Beach is ringed with restaurant options, including those serving traditional Thai dishes and international cuisine. Two to put on your list are BB Divers Pool & Lounge, a dive shop that has its own bar, pool and restaurant and serves a mix of Thai and western food, and Joy Cottages, a riverside establishment that features a variety of pizza and pasta. One hint: try the hot and sour shrimp soup.
